Ten of the Funniest Moments in TSC

By: Annie (edited by: Nanananana9)

We all need a little laughter in our lives. That’s why, for this month’s article, I have chosen to write about the ten funniest moments in The Shadowhunter Chronicles (TSC) by Cassandra Clare, according to me! They aren’t listed in order, and each moment is rated out of five. Let’s begin!

#10 - Simon and George

Simon and George are (sorry… *sob*… were) the two comics who made Tales from the Shadowhunter Academy hilarious. Here’s one of the scenes that made me want to go and hug George. George to Simon:

“I thought you were never coming back and I’d have to be pals with Jon Cartwright. Then I thought about being pals with Jon, was overwhelmed with despair, and decided to find one of the frogs I know are living in here, give it little frog glasses and call it Simon 2.0.”

Rating: 4 out of 5 I can see that smile on your face! Keep reading for more.

#9 - Alec and Pies

When the TMI gang found the enchanted cave in Edom (City of Heavenly Fire), Izzy, Simon, Jace and Clary went off to scout the passageways leading off the main chamber. Jace told Alec to build a fire, and ‘bake a pie or something.’ When they returned however, Alec said words that have been immortalized forever:

“I did not make a pie,” Alec repeated, gesturing expressively with one hand, “for three reasons. One, because I do not have any pie ingredients. Two, because I don’t actually know how to make a pie.” He paused, clearly waiting. Removing his sword and leaning it against the cave wall, Jace said warily, “And three?” “Because I am not your bitch,” Alec said, clearly pleased with himself.

Go Alec! Rating: 5 out of 5

#8 - Thomas and Matthew (Chain of Gold spoiler!)

When the Merry Thieves were out patrolling in the beginning of ChoG, and they fight a demon for the first time in many months. Classic Matthew scene!

“This is an outrage,” Matthew said, tossing the extinguished blade aside. “Do you know how much I spent on this waistcoat?” “No one told you to go out patrolling for demons dressed like an extra from The Importance of Being Earnest,” said James, tossing him a clean handkerchief. […] “I don’t think he’s dressed like an extra,” said Thomas, who had turned his attention to cleaning off Christopher. “Thank you,” said Matthew with a slight bow. “I think he’s dressed like a main character.” Thomas grinned.

Thomas is undoubtedly one of the sweetest and kindest characters in TSC. But that doesn’t mean he can’t mock his friends! Rating: 3.5 out of 5

#7 - Magnus and Peru

In The Bane Chronicles, one of Magnus’ amazing adventures was when he got so drunk that he went absolutely bonkers.

“You told us to leave you in the desert, because you planned to start a new life as a cactus," Catarina said, her voice flat. […] “Magnus, you were trying to flirt with your own plate." "I'm a very open-minded sort of fellow!" "Ragnor is not," Catarina said. "When he found out that you were feeding us guinea pigs, he hit you over the head with your plate. It broke." "So ended our love," Magnus said. "Ah, well. It would have never worked between me and the plate anyway.”

What happened in Peru is definitely my favourite story from TBC. Rating: 5 out of 5

#6 - Magnus and Will

In Clockwork Prince, Will had passed out after hunting the demon that had cursed him all over Chiswick. Magnus was staying in Camille’s house, and Will was resting there.

“I am brave," Will said... "Yes, you are," Magnus said, and kissed him. It wasn't the most dramatic kiss, but Will failed his free arm as if a bee had landed on him; Magnus had to hope Camille would assume this was passion. When they broke apart, Will looked stunned. So did Camille, for that matter. […] “Did you just kiss me?" Will inquired. Magnus made a slip-second decision. "No." "I thought-" "On occasion the aftereffects of the painkilling spells can result in hallucinations of the most bizarre sort." "Oh," Will said. "How peculiar.”

This has me in splits every time! Rating: 4.5 out of 5

#5 - Izzy and Simon

I’m sure all Sizzy fans remember this part from City of Heavenly Fire.

“Isabelle!" he called again. "Let down your raven hair!' "Oh my God," Clary muttered. "There was something in that blood Raphael gave you, wasn't there? I'm going to kill him.”

Rating: 4.5 out of 5

#4 - Alec and Sizzy

If we go back to the enchanted cave in Edom, when Simon and Izzy were talking and kissing, and Alec:

“WHY DOES THIS KEEP HAPPENING?" There was a sound of shattering glass, and they both sat up to see Alec glaring at them. He had dropped the empty bottle of wine he had been carrying, and there were bits of sparkly glass all over the cave floor. "WHY CAN'T YOU GO SOMEWHERE ELSE TO DO THESE HORRIBLE THINGS? MY EYES." "It's a demon realm, Alec," Isabelle said. "There's nowhere for us to go." "And you said I should look after her-" Simon began, then realized that would not be a productive line of conversation, and shut up.

Rating: 5 out of 5

#3 - Jem and Will

One of the rare times when Jem is mildly sarcastic and funny, is this:

“Ah,” said a voice from the doorway, “having your annual ‘everyone thinks Will is a lunatic’ meeting, are you? “It’s biannual,” said Jem. “And no, this is not that meeting.”

This makes me smile every time.

Rating: 5 out of 5

#2 - A little bit of classic Will

Almost to the end! This scene is from Clockwork Angel:

“So, you're a Shadowhunter,' Nate said. 'De Quincey told me that you lot were monsters. 'Was that before or after he tried to eat you?' Will inquired.”

Well, it is true Nate! Rating: 4 out of 5

#1 - Jules and Emma

This was in Lord of Shadows, when Jules and Emma went to Cornwall. This was a conversation they had on the train journey from London.

“You could sketch me,” said Emma. She flung herself down onto her seat, leaning her head on her hand. “ ‘Draw me like one of your French girls.’ ” Julian grinned. “I hate that movie,” he said. “You know I do.” Emma sat up indignantly. “The first time we watched Titanic, you cried.” “I had seasonal allergies,” Jules said.

And that’s it! I hope you enjoyed these, and that they brought a smile to your face. In these troubling times, we all need a little laughter. Stay safe, stay happy.

Thank you to the amazing Fandom community and my team at Shadowhunters Monthly for all these great quotes!
